VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
A. Volunteer Requirements and Important Information
- Teams with at least 9 runners residing within 30 miles of a point along the course, need to provide 2 volunteers for the race (van drivers do not count as volunteers).
- Teams who do not contribute volunteers will be required to pay $120 per team by May 1, 2013. We will use those monies to obtain volunteers if necessary, to spoil the volunteers who help us put on the event, and to make additional contributions to charities.
- For teams running "RTO One" with at least 3 runners residing within 30 miles of a point along the course, you will need to provide 1 volunteer for the race.
- RTO One teams who do not contribute volunteers will be required to pay $75 per team by May 1, 2013.

- Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
- The volunteer assignments are between 2 to 5 hours in length depending on the assignment.
- Volunteer assignments are on a first come first serve basis, so please sign up early for the assignment that you want! Please note that we cannot guarantee you will receive the assignment.
- Volunteers will receive a 2013 RTO t-shirt to be worn during their volunteer assignments.
- All volunteers are invited to come to the Finish Line Festival on Saturday June 1st and enjoy a complementary lunch. The Finish Line Festival is a fun scene that includes numerous vendors and live music. You will want to be a part of this scene where the runners are finishing the relay and celebrating their epic achievements.
B. Types of Job Assignments
- Wednesday Orientation Meeting Volunteer, Thursday Team Check-in Process Volunteer, Start Line Volunteer, and Finish Line Volunteer: Some of the responsibilities may include checking in teams, assisting with the set up of the start and finish line, collecting team forms, assisting with race coordinating jobs, passing out race swag, loading and unloading race equipment, race swag, start and finish line materials, and helping to direct teams and field questions. We will provide you with the training that you need when you show up for your assignment. That is also when we will provide you with your swag and the materials that you need for the assignment.
- Exchange Point Volunteer: This type of assignment involves working at one of the 35 Exchange Points along the course. Some of the responsibilities include calling out participant race numbers, directing traffic in the parking areas, tracking the teams coming into the Exchange Point, staying in communication with the assistant Race Director during the race, and managing the equipment and rules of the Exchange Point. We will provide you with the training that you need at the Exchange Point Volunteer Orientation Meeting on Wednesday May 29, 2013 (see below). That is also when we will provide you with your swag and the materials that you need for the assignment.
You are invited to participate in the Most Spirited Exchange Point Contest. This is a fun competition where exchange points pick a theme and the runners vote on which exchange point was the most enthusiastic and had the most interesting theme. It is left to your discretion to decide what the theme will be at your exchange point. The exchange point that receives the most votes will receive a special prize. We encourage every exchange point to pick a fun theme. You will find that this is the best way to complete your assignment.
Being an Exchange Point Volunteer is particularly exciting, for you are on the course and you get to see the runners in action. It can also be at an odd time of the night. We appreciate your spirit of adventure and your help with this important part of the event.

Each of these locations has special needs. We will meet with you separately to address the needs of the assignment. C. EXCHANGE POINT VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION MEETING:
- This meeting will be May 29, 2013. It is from 4 to 8 p.m. Donât be alarmed â you do not have to be there for four hours. Location is TBD.
- This meeting is for Exchange Point Volunteers ONLY! If you are volunteering at the team check-in Thursday or at the Start Line Friday or at the Finish Line Saturday, you do not have to attend this meeting.
- Past Exchange Point Volunteers may show up any time between 4 and 8 p.m. to pick up their swag and Exchange Point materials and instructions and be on their way.
- As for NEW Exchange Point Volunteers and Exchange Point Volunteers with Questions about their assignment, we request that you be present during one of two presentations when we will cover the basics and answer all of your questions. The first presentation will be at 5 p.m. and the second one will be at 7 p.m. Each will last about 20 minutes.
- We will have some good food and drinks, so plan on us providing you with dinner this evening.
D. VOLUNTEER SUBSTITUTIONS
- If you cannot fulfill your assignment, please find a replacement. Please contact Joanne or Ryan to notify us of your replacement.
